Mixed Media Collage

This piece for me is about reclaiming your power. I was inspired by Beyonce’s Renaissance album and her musical film, Black Is King—about not letting culture define how you see yourself or treat people. I wanted to translate pride and self love into this piece: the sheer confidence to stand in your power and let no one sway you from being who you are. 

I began this piece as a teaching sample for my art students at Norwalk High, learning about the textile portrait process of contemporary artist Bisa Butler. This evolved more deeply into a creative practice that I explored on my own and really enjoyed. I look forward to making more!
